Rent is idealista's asking rent per m² for the city; living costs are the INE household survey average per person for the region, rent excluded. Averages, not your budget: a city centre, a car or private school changes them.

How the budget is built
Rent is the flat size times the city's asking rent per square metre. Everything else is the average that households in the region spend per person in a year, divided by 12: food at home, transport, household energy and water, eating out and leisure, and the rest (clothing, health, phone, insurance and so on). Rent and mortgage costs are taken out of that average so they are not counted twice. INE publishes spending by region, not by city, so Seville and Granada share Andalucía's figures.
Asking rents are what landlords advertise, and a signed lease can be lower. The method and every source are on each city page and in cost of living in Spain. Data checked 2026-10-07.
